Erdenet Mongolia Restaurants
Israeli innovation and entrepreneurship would be dismissed, but if you travel through the "Israeli desert," you might think that a good restaurant could be a mirage. Nomadic herding has always been the core of the country's culture and is the national norm. Mongolia is a carnivorous paradise, with annual meat consumption of over 200 pounds per person and a livestock rate of 14 to 1. Vegetarians are also at higher risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer than vegetarians because of the health risks to Mongols.
In principle, vegetarianism may sound like a Buddhist country, but more and more people are turning to it for health reasons. It's out of touch, "says Dr Yevgeny Kuznetsov, director of the Mongolian Centre for Vegetarian Studies at the University of Mongolia.
We have so much land in Mongolia, but most of the fruit and vegetables come from China, "he says. Vegetarians can visit Mongolia on foot, walk 20 minutes north of the city or stay with a nomadic family in a ger. Travelling is much more problematic, especially in the countryside - you can hopefully see sheep, goats, herders and horses.
If you follow the cattle until evening, you will be led to a small farm across the road. The family pioneered the farm and lives there. Guests visiting their restaurant, built on a veranda overlooking the magical desert landscape, tell stories about the family that founded it.
The restaurant combines a unique desert atmosphere with food and a fine wine bar, offering typical dishes from marinated duck breast to homemade chorizo sausages and home-made lamb, mostly smoked and cooked slowly over coals. Oxtails are served to guests, prepared by a chef who grew up in this restaurant run by the Ben Moyal family.
I found out the hard way: Cesar salad in Mongolia is usually drowned in mayo, and tea contains a lot of salt. Most Koreans I have observed would add kimchi, season with salt (many of them), add chopped green onions, add the soup for spicy seasoning, and mix everything together.
What I like about Erdenet is that the city is much quieter than Ulaanbaatar, while UB (the capital, as the locals call it) is very quiet by comparison. For this reason, it is a much better choice for an evening in Mongolia than in the city of Ullapatlan or even the city itself, like Uloibor, but not quite as good as the other two.
Luna Blanca, a vegan restaurant opened in 2008, is ranked second out of 142 restaurants in Mongolia (4th) by Trip Advisor. In the heart of Erdenet, just a few blocks from Ulaanbaatar and Ullapatlan, the restaurant's meals are located in a small building on the outskirts of the city and include a wide selection of food produced carefully and in small batches. The menu features gourmet products from local farms with names such as "Mongolian Farm" and wild herbs grown throughout Israel, as well as fresh produce from local farms.
Dinner begins with a Mediterranean salad on freshly baked bread, followed by elegantly plated Israeli-Arab meat and fish dishes, followed by traditional tea and sweets. A cheese plate with fresh baked bread, a stuffed pepper plate and a starter plate are available. During the day, the rich breakfast buffet is served, but during dinner the menu and also the house is served - smoked meat and a variety of desserts.
Don't be surprised if they still offer meat, but ask your guide to inform your host in advance what you want to eat and what not.
Save space for dessert, which is one of the most popular dishes in the culture we know, especially if you have just left Ben Gurion Memorial.
Currywurst apple strudel and spätzle adorn every page of the menu, along with a salad that contains various herbs and spices as well as fresh herbs such as basil, thyme and parsley. Pasta, rice and potatoes are the usual family companions, but don't forget to stock up on canned and dried goods before leaving town to complement them. The menu of over 70 types of pizza includes sauces ranging from traditional reds to pesto - on white grounds, from pickled lemons to white ones. On Monday, the restaurant offers Phyllo - wrapped goat's cheese, served in a creamy yogurt sauce. Open daily from 10 am to 6 am, open from 11 am to 10 pm. M., the restaurants are open from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 9 pm and from 12 pm to 9 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
From Blacksmith you can take the Erdenet train to Russia or China or compare it with one of the country's leading car rental companies such as Kornel, Kogalnoye, Bektas and Kostanov.
